I went out to eat again! I got sushi this time with my sorority little. It was a little awkward to order a water with no ice and no straw (I don't like ice), and the waitress made a comment along the lines of 'I've never heard that one before.' But I hope people will start asking for water with no straw. I understand the cleanliness issue, but restaurants do wash their cups. And you can buy an aluminum re-usable straw. It would fit in a purse or pocket just as well as a pencil.
The plastic straw is so small and honestly I didn't even think about it being part of the problem of pollution and waste until doing research for this project. Did you know that Americans use 500 million straws per day! That is enough straws to wrap around the earth 2.5 times.
